Through generations the Inuit have been aware of just how much the sea ice means to life in the Arctic regions. It is a rarity, however, to document such knowledge for the benefit of the descendants. In the recently published monumental work, “The Meaning of Ice”, this knowledge is handed down and documented by hunters from Kangiqtugaapik (Clyde River) in Nunavut, Utqiagvik (Barrow) in Alaska and Qaanaaq in Greenland.
