Professor Position Available: Sea Ice Geophysics - University of Alaska Fairbanks

The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) invites applications for a research faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of sea ice geophysics. This full-time, permanent position will be located at UAF in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The successful applicant will be expected to pursue a vigorous, externally funded research program that expands the sea ice research capacity of the University and may incorporate remote sensing, field observations, or model-based methods. Responsibilities will include recruiting and mentoring graduate students and may involve the teaching of graduate or undergraduate classes.

Broad expertise in polar research and the ability to interact with researchers outside of the sea ice community are essential. Experience in multiple geophysical research techniques and linkages with other components of the Arctic climate system is highly desirable.

Applicants must have a PhD in an appropriate field by the time of the appointment. Evidence of postdoctoral experience or of the applicant’s ability to acquire funding from external sources should be provided.
