We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow (PDF) or research associate (RA) (threeyear term) to study atmospheric chemistry of environmentally and/or climatically significant gases and aerosols (e.g., NOx, SOx, COx, ozone, soot, PAHs, black carbon, mercury, PM2.5) in the ambient air, as well as in the smoke during oil spill responses (e.g., in situ burning). The successful candidate will be expected to play a major role in Arctic and marine oil spill research at mesocosm scales and in field trials.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent training in atmospheric chemistry, environmental science, analytical chemistry, or related fields, with strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills. Experience in real-time air pollution monitoring, or atmospheric chemistry modeling, or oil spill research will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be working at the Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS) of the University of Manitoba (, Winnipeg, Canada. CEOS is a focal point of Arctic System Science and Climate Change research, which is an established “Signature Area” of research excellence at the University of Manitoba. With more than 150 researchers, students and staff, including a Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC), a Canada-150 Research Chair and two Canada Research Chairs (both at Tier 1), CEOS is one of the largest and most influential Arctic marine research groups in the world. CEOS is also home to major analytical and mesocosm-scale facilities dedicated to Arctic and marine oil spill research, including the Churchill Marine Observatory (CMO) that will soon become operational.
