We are seeking two highly motivated research associates (RA; up to a four-year term) to study chemical composition (both identification and quantification) of oil and oil products to support oil spill research and
response. The studies are funded by the Multi-Partner Research Initiative (MPRI; www.dfompo. gc.ca/science/coe-cde/cooger-crpgee/mpri-eng.html) under the Oceans Protection Plan of the
Government of Canada.

The successful candidates will be working at the Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS; www.umanitoba.ca/ceos) at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. CEOS is home to the Petroleum Environmental Research Laboratory (PETRL) and Ultra-Clean Trace Elements Laboratory (UCTEL). The laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for targeted and non-targeted analysis of molecular and elemental composition of oil and oil products in environmental and biological samples. The successful candidates will also interact and collaborate with a large national and international research team involved in the MPRI program, and contribute to the development of a Canadian centre of excellence in chemical characterization of oil and oil products in the environment.

Position #1 (RA#1): Senior Research Associate in Oil Chemical Analysis Main responsibilities of RA#1 include, but are not limited to: coordination of MPRI chemical analysis; development and implementation of analytical methods; development and implementation of QA/QC protocols and interlaboratory calibration exercises; data reporting, archiving, and assistance in data interpretation; supervision and training of MPRI participants in learning analytical techniques.
Applicants for RA#1 should have a PhD or equivalent training in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, or relevant fields, with demonstrated experience and skills in state-of-the-art instrumental analytical techniques such as GC-MS, LC-MS, and data interpretation. Special consideration will be given to those candidates with direct experience in oil chemical analysis.

Position #2 (RA#2): Research Associate in Oil Chemical Analysis Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to: sample receiving and chain-of-custody; sample preparation (e.g., extraction, concentration); sample analysis; and, data reporting and archiving.
Applicants for RA#2 should have an MSc or equivalent training in analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, or relevant fields, with demonstrated experiences and skills in chemical analysis. Special consideration will be given to those candidates with direct experience in oil chemical analysis.

Application deadline: September 30, 2018

Applications should be emailed to Dr. Feiyue Wang (Feiyue.Wang@umanitoba.ca). Please include in your application a CV, a short statement of relevant research experience and interests, and the contact information for two referees.
