We are looking for a dedicated person who can take part in developing our Department.
The Department of Environment and Minerals Resources is growing, and we therefore seek a scientist with a degree in natural sciences, preferable in the marine environment.
Start the 1 May 2018 or by further agreement.
The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources advice the Government of Greenland, the municipalities, and others in topics that relates to the living resources. We seek an employee for the Department of Environment and Minerals Resources from 1 May 2018 or by further agreement. The employee will participate in the day-to-day work and participate in one or more research projects that relates to the work of the Department.
Presently the Department employs seven scientists/senior scientists and one technician apart from the Head of the Department. Assignments include advisory work, research and monitoring in relation to mitigating the effects of the mineral industry on the environment.

Responsibilities and tasks:

As scientist/advisor, you will participate in:
- evaluation of the environmental impacts of the mineral industry
- advising the Government of Greenland on environmental issues
- writing and updating of strategic environmental impact assessments
- research projects relating to the departmental work.
We work together with several international working groups and you will cooperate with researchers from Greenland and Denmark as well as from other countries. Furthermore, the Department has long-term agreements with the Environmental Agency for the Mineral Resources Activities (EAMRA), Greenland Government, and the Danish Centre for Environment and Energy (DCE), Aarhus University.

Qualifications:

We seek a researcher/advisor with a background in natural science, preferably in the marine environment, familiar with the departmental work. The applicant must have knowledge of one or more of the field of work of the department, e.g.:
- management
- underwater noise
- ecotoxicology
- marine pollution
- risk assessment
- chemistry in the environment.
Familiarity with Greenlandic and the Greenland society is an advantage but not a requirement.

Salary and terms of employment:

Salary and terms of employment, such as travel to and from Nuuk in relation to the start of the employment, is according to the current agreement between the Government of Greenland and the employees negotiating partners.
Working hours are 40 hours per week.
The employee is qualified for housing in connection with the start of employment. Rent is paid according to the current rules. The employee must move out of the housing facility if the employment is terminated. If the employee is evicted because of neglect, there will be no new housing offer.
Place of work is Nuuk. Some travel is expected in relation to work.
