The Zackenberg Research Station is located in a valley that is divided by the Zackenberg River. Until now, the researchers have mainly worked on the eastern side of the river. in fact, they have only been able to cross to the other side by means of a very primitive solution involving a rubber dinghy attached to a wire spanning the river.
