SERF-ing in Winnipeg in January 2015!
“It is too warm?!”
Yes, this January in Winnipeg the outside temperatures were above 0 °C! I guess everyone else was happy to enjoy the warm days in the coldest time of the year, but unfortunately not for us who wanted to grow ice at U of M’s Sea-ice Environmental Research Facility (SERF). Due to this unusually warm weather, our experiment was delayed for more than two weeks. Ok, I have to admit that I was a bit happy to see this, as I never felt really ready for the experiment. I was setting up the experiment until the last minute. Anyway, the cold spell came eventually, and I still remember how chaotic it felt when I did the first sampling, as this was the first time I ever worked in the ‘field’.
