Leg 1a: Quebec City to Pond Inlet (26 July - 12 August)

Leaving Quebec City on 26 July, the Amundsen will sail north and conduct oceanographic sampling operations along the coast of Labrador and in the fjords Nachvak and Okak. A 24-h multi-beam survey will be carried out in Cumberland Sound in support of ArcticNet’s and the Government of Nunavut’s habitat mapping objectives. Continuing North towards Pond Inlet, the Amundsen will conduct up to 3 ROV dives for deep-sea coral and methane seep exploration and carry out basic sampling operations and multi-beam surveys along the coast of Baffin Island. The ship is scheduled to be in Pond Inlet on 12 August for a science crew change and the end of Leg 1a.

Participants getting off the ship on 12 August need to take care of their own travel arrangements to fly south from Pond Inlet (see First Air http://www.firstair.ca/ and Canadian North http://www.canadiannorth.com/). There is no ArcticNet charter flight leaving Pond Inlet on 12 August.
