East Greenland coastal cruise

Start/end date:
Wed, 2018-08-01 00:00 to Sat, 2018-09-01 00:00
Event type:

The Greenland Ice sheet is melting at accelerating rate releasing freshwater into to the coastal sea around Greenland. The interaction between Ice Sheet and ocean is complex and is modified by local fjord conditions such as sill depth, tidal amplitude, sea ice conditions, bathymetry and coastal water characteristics. The ocean may be an important heat source that contributes to glacial melting.

GeoBasis-Zackenberg 2018

Start/end date:
Mon, 2018-04-16 00:00 to Thu, 2018-11-01 00:00
Event type:
Research
The Arctic is warming at an amplified rate compared with the global average. This has and will continue to have large implications for Arctic ecosystems and their functioning. There is thus an urgent need to monitor and understand the consequences of a changing climate for Arctic ecosystems and related feedback effects on the climate system. The GeoBasis programme is a part of the integrated, cross-disciplinary Greenland Environmental Monitoring (GEM) programme, and has been monitoring the terrestrial, abiotic environments in Green-land since 1995.

Drivhusgas-observationer i Arktis (ObsArktis)

Start/end date:
Mon, 2018-07-30 00:00 to Wed, 2018-08-29 00:00
Event type:
Research

The objective of the project is to strengthen the understanding of the regional and local processes controlling the arctic climate changes. It is our intension to observe the development of CO2 in the arctic atmosphere at Zackenberg Marine Station by an artic fjord sampling and analyzing concentrations as well as the fluxes.

Marin Basis Zackenberg

Start/end date:
Tue, 2018-07-24 00:00 to Wed, 2018-08-15 00:00
Event type:

Marin Basis Monitoring Program is a part of the GEM program, and take place in Young Sund every year in late July until middle of August. The program follows the levels and changes in

The future of Arctic biodiversity in a climate change era

Start/end date:
Fri, 2018-06-01 00:00 to Sat, 2018-06-30 00:00
Event type:
Research

The overall aim of the proposed project is to investigate how biotic interactions combined
with physiological performance underpin the sensitivity of Greenlands intertidal communit
y to changing environmental conditions. All fieldwork will be conducted in the intertidal zo
ne in Godthåbsfjorden, Greenland. The field sites will be accessed by boat from Nuuk dai
ly in June 2018. I will deploy equipment during low tide, so the boat will be avaliable for ot
her perposes in the fjord while I work.

Field Site: Godthåbsfjorden, Nuuk Greenland

SERF Campaign 2018

Start/end date:
Sun, 2017-12-17 00:00 to Fri, 2018-03-30 00:00
Event type:
Research

The Sea-ice Environmental Research Facility (SERF) is the first experimental sea-ice facility in Canada. Located on the campus of the University of Manitoba, the main feature of the SERF facility is an outdoor seawater pool (60 feet long, 30 feet wide and 8 feet deep). It is equipped with a movable roof to control snow cover and ice growth, and various sensors and instruments to allow real-time monitoring. Along with the main pool, the facility has two oil research tubs.

Evaluation of existing measurements in 2015 and 2016; new measurements of Short lived greenhouse forcers in 2017 and 2018 (EVAM-SLCF) and 2017-2019

Start/end date:
Tue, 2017-08-01 00:00 to Tue, 2018-07-31 00:00
Event type:

The Arctic has heated twice as much as the rest of the world with large consequences for example for the wildlife, the pollutants and the cryosphere and with possible large positive feedback effects on climate. Although the knowledge about the Arctic has increased over the last years, Arctic is still one of the regions of which we know least. This is especially true for the high Arctic. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of infrastructure.

2017 Summer Amundsen Campaign - BaySys -CANCELLED

Start/end date:
Thu, 2017-05-25 15:45 to Tue, 2017-07-04 15:45
Event type:
Research

On May 25, the research icebreaker CCGS Amundsen left its home port of Quebec City for its 13th expedition to the Canadian Arctic.  The first leg of the 2017 expedition was to be devoted to the Hudson Bay System (BaySys) Study, co-led by the University of Manitoba and Manitoba Hydro. Funded at a level of $17 million, this four-year program aims to develop an understanding of how to separate the impacts of climate change from those of hydroelectric development on freshwater-marine coupling in Hudson Bay.
