Event type:

Leg 2a: Resolute to Kugluktuk (05 September to 01 October)

Leg 2a will start from Resolute on 05 September coinciding with a full Coast Guard crew change. Participants and crewmembers will be joining the ship using a chartered Boeing 737 flying from Quebec City to Resolute. If ice conditions allow, the ship will take the northern route to the Beaufort Sea through Viscount Melville Sound and M’Clure Strait to conduct oceanographic sampling operations and multi-beam surveys in this seldom travelled region. The alternative is to take the southern route through M’Clintock Channel. The Amundsen will spend approximately three weeks in the Beaufort Sea/Amundsen Gulf region conducting mooring operations and SX90 sonar and multi-beam surveys as part of ArcticNet’s Beaufort Regional Environmental Assessment (BREA) funded projects. Oceanographic sampling will also be conducted along the ArcticNet designated transects. Ship time has been allocated for coring, storm related and sea ice operations. The ship is expected to be in Kugluktuk on 01 October for a science crew change and the end of Leg 2a.

Participants getting off the ship on 01 October need to take care of their own travel arrangements to fly south from Kugluktuk (see First Air http://www.firstair.ca/ and Canadian North http://www.canadiannorth.com/). There is no ArcticNet charter flight leaving Kugluktuk on 01 October.
