The Arctic has heated twice as much as the rest of the world with large consequences for example for the wildlife, the pollutants and the cryosphere and with possible large positive feedback effects on climate. Although the knowledge about the Arctic has increased over the last years, Arctic is still one of the regions of which we know least. This is especially true for the high Arctic. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of infrastructure. In the present project we will utilise a newly constructed station to measure the most important greenhouse components: CO2, CH4, Black Carbon (BC), particles and ozone. Measurements will be performed for two years (July 2017 to June 2018). Furthermore, two campaigns using drones will be carried out, where for the first time the vertical distribution of selected climate forcers will be made. Similar model calculations with the Danish Eulerian Hemispheric model (DEHM) will be made, whereby the geographical distribution of the important air pollutants will be obtained. Based on this an estimate of the related climate forcing will made, using the earth system model (ESM) NASA/GISS-modelE (Schmidt et al., 2014). All instruments and facilities are funded from a grant on 70.5 mill DDK from the Villum Foundation and the current application only covers salaries and running cost.
The obtained results will be reported to the Danish Energy Agency and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, to AMAP and it is foreseen that the work will lead to three or more peer reviewed articles.
