METAPOL (Meteorological and pollutant observations in the High Arctic)
METAPOL (Meteorological and pollutant observations in the High Arctic)
This project focusses on the monitoring of climate-relevant parameters as in this case the scattering potential of the ambient aerosol population at Villum Research Station (VRS), Station Nord (SN), North Greenland and the determination of the energy budget including ingoing and outgoing short-wave and long-wave radiation. The data will be of high relevance to better quantity the contribution of the direct aerosol effect in the high Arctic.
Within the field season we will set up a nephelometer which measures the scattering potential of the observed aerosol at VRS. The instrument will be zero checked and it will be calibrated using a standard gas in this case, carbon dioxide. The plan is to install the data acquisition software, so that data are stored continuously for the upcoming years.
In addition, this project includes the service and operation of the meteorological tower at VRS. Parameters measured at the meteorological tower are air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed/direction measured at two levels, air pressure, snow depth, incoming and outgoing short-wave and long-wave radiation, incoming UVA, UVB, near infrared, and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). The data will be quality-controlled following the guidelines of WMO.
